"…Our symptoms and difficulties reflect how we tried to adapt to circumstances beyond our control…In treatment, those survival strategies must be respected, not pathologized, even while we are trying to transform them.” -- Janina Fisher, Ph.D.
*I provide therapy services for adults, adolescents, and children.
*I believe in the life-long natural drive toward health and healing.
*I use approaches that cultivate a mindful awareness, and work to reveal and transform barriers to achieve balance and clarity within oneself or within a family system.
My understanding of psychological problems integrates the powerful neuroscience research on the impact of early attachment disruptions and developmental trauma (even the accumulation of "small" everyday upsets of childhood) on our capacities to cope.

2. Adolescents and children
I have had extensive training in child development and the unique ways that children may experience and express clinical issues. Individual therapy may incorporate
o Play therapy
o EMDR (usually gentle tapping alternating on both sides of the body--on knees, hands, or shoulders--Click to see description)
o Expressive therapies like sand tray, story telling, and drawing.
o Older adolescents benefit from early building blocks of mindful awareness of their interior Selves and their confusing feelings and reactions.
o Family therapy and parent consultation is used to bolster parents’ confidence and skills with their children’s needs, strengthen parent-child relationships, and help their children successfully navigate their increasingly complex social world.
